Visiting Interstate 5 Corridor
Oregon’s Interstate 5 corridor stretches over 350 miles on a path between the Oregon coast and Cascades. Metro Portland, in the north offers travelers world-class culture, restaurants and events. Heading south through smaller communities like Woodburn and Albany, travelers find convenient services and stopping points wtih scenery along the way. Salem, the Oregon state capital, anchors the north end of the Willamette Valley region and is another hub of culture, education and activity. Eugene, to the south of the Willamette Valley is well known as home of University of Oregon and the well-known Ducks athletics. Southern Oregon features the I-5 communities of Ashland, Grants Pass, and Medford.
Enjoy the culture of Salem with Music Director Sean Paul Mills and the Salem Philharmonia Orchestra. The 2013 season’s winter and spring performances feature Youthful Vigor on February 23rd at Chemeketa Community College Auditorium, and Splendor on April 20th, also at the CCC Auditorium.
Springfield, east of Eugene across Interstate 5, welcomes spring at the Eugene, Cascades & Coast Adventure Center with the Kids’ Adventure Club 2013 Spring Family Day, March 16th. Spend the day learning geocaching basics with all the equipment provided to practice during the event, the new Oregon GeoTour encompasses the Interstate 5 corridor from the coast to the cascades.
The 2013 Eugene Marathon is recognized as one of the best in America. Known as Track Town, Eugene hosts its only marathon April 28th, starting on the corner of 15th Avenue and Agate Street and finishing on the Hayward Field Track. The half marathon and marathon courses run through south Eugene, Amazon Park and the University of Oregon and split after the Knickerbocker footbridge. Events also include a 5k and kid’s marathon along with a weekend expo.
Spring brings the start of the Grants Pass Saturday Artisan & Crafters Market. One of the best and biggest markets in southern Oregon, Grants Pass’ Saturday Market offers hand-crafted, local products, art, textiles along with plenty of fun and entertainment. The market opens May 4th for the 2013 season.
The Rogue River in Grants Pass is the place to celebrate Memorial Day weekend and the start of summer. The Grants Pass Active Club hosts 2013 Boatnik, May 23rd through 27th – a great festival for the entire family. Join the fun at Riverside Park in Grants Pass for carnival rides, games and food booths. Saturday’s fun includes the morning parade and a full day of the Men’s Fast Pitch Softball Tournament, join in the action or root on your favorite particpant.
