Astoria–Megler Bridge

Unique Attractions Are All Over Oregon!

It's no secret Oregon is a quirky place. From roadside attractions to massive bookstores, 80s-movie backgrounds and 16th-century London theater replicas, Oregon offers some of the most unique attractions you can imagine.

Famous American artifacts are found here, like the Spruce Goose, and even 62-acre cliffside shrines – so let’s get started.

Astoria

Found along the Columbia River on the Oregon Coast, Astoria is an incredibly scenic seaside town.

Astoria features icons like the Astoria–Megler Bridge and Astoria Column, which you may recognize from The Goonies, Kindergarten Cop, Short Circuit, Free Willy, and much more.

H-4 Hercules aircraft

The Spruce Goose

The Spruce Goose

You’ve heard the name, we know. But, did you know you could see Howard Hughes’ massive H-4 Hercules aircraft in northern Oregon?

The Goose, and plenty of other military and aerospace relics, are on display at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville near Newburg.

Allen Elizabethan Theatre

Best known for hosting the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the incredibly impressive Allen Elizabethan Stage is located Ashland.

Found on campus at Southern Oregon University, the Allen Elizabethan stage is pretty great replica of the 1599 Fortune Theatre stage in London.

Oregon Vortex

On display to travelers of the Oregon Gold Country since 1930, the Oregon Vortex is yet another roadside attraction featuring a House of Mystery.

Set near Grants Pass along the Interstate 5 Corridor, the OR Vortex yields plenty of opportunity for wacky pictures and goofy souvenirs in the Curios Shop.

Portland Bookstore

Powell's City of Books

Powell's City of Books

While in Portland, you can’t miss the massive Powell's City of Books – found in downtown’s Pearl District.

One of the largest independent book stores on the planet, Powell’s covers 68,000 square feet, or 1.6 acres, or a full city block – whatever you prefer.

The Grotto

Another one for Portland.

Formally the National Sanctuary of our Sorrowful Mother, the Grotto is a 62-acre Catholic sanctuary, shrine, and botanical garden. Found in central PDX, the Grotto is built into a 110-foot cliff, yielding awesome views of the Oregon Cascades, the Columbia River Gorge, and Mount St. Helens.

The Grotto also features the Chapel of Mary, the Meditation Chapel, and the Servite Monastery – plus a gift shop, conference center, and visitor complex. The site also hosts the annual Christmas Festival of Light.

Hood River County

Hood River Pear Farm

Hood River County Fruit Loop

An Oregon attraction if ever there was one, the Hood River County Fruit Loop is located in – you guessed it – Hood River.

Found in the largest pear-growing region in the country, the 35-mile Fruit Loop courses cyclists past cute fruit stands, scenic vineyards, microbreweries, and picturesque farms for alpacas, lavender, and more.

Silver Falls State Park

Oregon's largest state park, Silver Falls State Park covers 9,000 acres located about 20 miles from Salem. Of course the park features hiking and biking paths, picnic spots, and all your usual park stuff – but this one has some stunning waterfalls.

You'll want to trek the Trail of Ten Falls, offering of course 10 waterfalls along the path. Throughout the park, don't miss the 93-foot Lower South Falls, the 177-foot South Falls, or the 178-foot Double Falls – the highest waterfall in Silver Falls.

The park also offers the Silver Falls State Park Concession Building Area – a U.S. Historic district found on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
