Oregon’s Interstate 5 corridor fills with traffic on games days. School is in session and with the University of Oregon Ducks athletics, and Oregon State University Beavers athletics, I-5 travel is a must. Corvallis and Eugene fill with excitement through March with 2014 men’s and women’s basketball. The excitement continues well into June with softball, baseball, rowing, and track and field among the events to see.
For Corvallis and Albany residents and visitors, spring brings the opening of both the Albany Farmers Market and the Corvallis Farmers’ Market. The 2014 Albany market is held on Saturday mornings starting April 19th. The Corvallis Farmers’ Market is held at 1st and Jackson Saturday and Wednesday mornings, also begins on April 19th.
Now in its 12th year, the Siskiyou FilmFest is March 21st and 22nd. Presented by Ashland’s Klamath-Siskiyou Wildlands Center, Grants Pass High School Performing Arts Center hosts the 2014 film festival. Travel through the Rogue Valley for one-of-a-kind arts and culture.
All too soon, Grants Pass celebrates the 22nd Amazing May with five weeks of events and festivities leading up to summer. Events culminate with the 55th Annual Boatnik Festival over Memorial Day Weekend. The 2014 Boatnik is May 22nd through 26th with most events held at Grants Pass Riverside Park. Launch summer with midway games and carnival, drag boat exhibitions, softball, golf, and live music – all at Riverside Park.
The Eugene-Springfield community is a hub of the southern Willamette Valley. The Lane County Fairgrounds hosts the June Black Sheep Gathering, honoring naturally colored fibers and the animals that produce them. The 2014 events are June 20th through 22nd, featuring exhibits, workshops, and classes. Be sure to follow the 2014 Sheep-to-Shawl competition.
North of Portland, the historic Columbia River port city of St. Helens is now a mecca for fishing, boating, and sailing. With warm sunny days of spring and summer, visitors and outdoor enthusiast flock to St. Helens. Looks for the inaugural Columbia County Corn Hole & Countrycom May 16th through 18th. The fun includes live country music, cornhole throwing, and a chili cook-off on the banks of the Columbia River.
St. Helens 13 Nights on the River begins June 5th, with evening concerts each Thursday evening throughout summer. 2014 performances are held at scenic Columbia View Park on the riverfront in St. Helens. Arrive early for the afternoon open-air market starting at 2 p.m.
