Adventures Along the Oregon Coast
Travel Tips for Oregon Coast Visitors | Fall/Winter 2016
Throughout the fall and into the winter, Oregon’s coastal region will boast a wide range of excellent things to see and do. From the sterling attractions to the charming seaside towns and cities, the western ridge of Oregon will be a must-visit for late 2016 and into early 2017.
Check Out the Cape Arago Overlook in Coos Bay
On October 21st to 23rd you can experience the Astoria International Film Festival. Now in it’s 10th year, the AIFF will feature screenings, panel discussions, and other events at venues throughout downtown Astoria. While you’re in the cinematic mood, be sure to check out the Oregon Film Museum in Astoria.
As you continue to explore the Oregon coast, head south from Astoria into Lincoln City. You’ll find an array of can’t-miss attractions here, and one of the premier destinations this fall will certainly be the Chinook Winds Casino. You’ll no doubt be able to place a few wagers and enjoy the slots, but be sure to check out the premier entertainment at Chinook Winds.
On October 21st and 22nd you can see the Grammy-winning singer-song writer Michael McDonald live on stage at the Chinook Winds Casino Showroom, and on November 11th and 12th, Chinook Winds will be hosting Wayne Brady. The talented entertainer will bring his mix of comedy and music to the stage at 8 p.m. – the drive in from nearby Newport will be short and scenic.
Lincoln City will also be hosting some premier events near the end of 2016. On December 3rd you can check out the Holiday Craft Fair held at the Connie Hansen Garden Conservancy from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Just two weeks later, the Lincoln Pops Big Band will be performing live at Gleneden Beach on December 15th starting at 7:30 p.m. If your visit to Lincoln City is slated for early 2017, be sure to check out Antique Week. From February 11th to 20th the many antique shops found in and around Lincoln City will feature excellent deals and specials.
Your trek through coastal Oregon should include a stay in the pleasant city of Coos Bay. If you’re flying in to Coos Bay you’ll land at the Southwest Oregon Regional Airport. Be sure to visit on December 2nd for the Downtown Coos Bay Wine Walk starting at 5 p.m. On December 10th, make your way to the Egyptian Theatre in Coos Bay for the 42nd Annual Christmas Concert at the Egyptian starting at noon. Don't miss stunning views of the Pacific from Cape Arago Overlook in Coos Bay.
You’ll want to enjoy a holiday celebration in Brookings during your visit to the Oregon coast. From December 10th to 24th you and the kids can take a ride on the Stout Mountain Railway. The “Christmas Train” will be available for tours, and you can find it all at the Stout Mountain Railway Garden within Stout Park.
