Visiting Oregon Coast
The Oregon Coast is ready for fall and winter visitors. From Astoria's Art Walks on the second Saturday of each month to a stroll down Seaside’s ocean-front promenade, or from whale watching in Brookings to the magic of the 27th Annual Holiday Lights at Shore Acres State Park, this is the season to visit Oregon’s pacific coast.
As the holidays near, Shore Acres State Park begins to sparkle with over 300,000 twinkling lights for the 27th Annual Holiday Lights at Shore Acres and the surrounding communities including Coos Bay, Bandon, and Reedsport.
The community of Bandon is in full gear for the holidays the weekend of December 13th through 15th. Bandon’s Old Town Holiday Marketplace is the final market weekend for the 2013 season December 13th and 14th. Welcome Santa as he arrives by boat at the Port of Bandon Boat Launch then head to the Marketplace for some shopping. The Bandon Playhouse performs Christmas in the Aire the same weekend. Take in performances of the holiday show evenings at the Sprague Theater.
Seaside welcomes jazz fans to the Oregon coast February 20th through 23rd for the 2014 Seaside Jazz Festival. Previously known as Oregon’s Dixieland Jubilee, the 2014 jazz fest marks the 31st year for great jazz on the north Oregon coast. Five venues in Downtown Seaside are within walking distance of each other and feature the sounds of We 3, Titan Hot Seven, and Bob Draga among the performers. You can’t beat great music in a scenic Oregon location.
Lincoln City, on the central Oregon coast, is nestled amidst the Pacific Ocean, the Oregon Coast Range, and Devils Lake. Thirty minutes north of Newport, Lincoln City has a 2013 – 2014 calendar filled with festivals and events. The Tanger Outlets in Lincoln City host the annual Chowder Cook-Off November 9th & 10th, with the fun picking up February 1st with the Mardi Gras Jambalaya Cook-Off. Pick up a special antique at Lincoln City’s Antique Week February 7th through 16th, and enjoy the Festival of Illusions March 24th through 29th.
Fill in the central Oregon coast holiday calendar with events in Newport to the south. Newport’s Annual Lighted Boat Parade launches the 2013 season on the evening of December 7th. Newport’s Whale Watch Week, December 30th through January 5th, offers visitors the opportunity to see whales migrating along the Oregon Coast. Look for one of 24 Whale Watching Spoken Here signs to find a volunteer whale spotter.
