Visiting Oregon Coast

Launch your Oregon Coast spring fun at the 2014 Astoria Warrenton Crab, Seafood & Wine Festival, celebrating spring and the bounty of Oregon and the Oregon coast. Held at Clatsop County Fairgrounds, events run April 25th through 27th. Marking the 32nd year for the festival, this is your opportunity to savor cuisine from the Oregon coast, sample Oregon wines, and browse arts and crafts.

The October 2014 Great Columbia Crossing 10K closes Astoria’s summer season events. The course is a scenic adventure across the Astoria Megler Bridge, North America’s longest continuous truss bridge, on a relatively flat course. The Great Columbia Crossing is a great family fun event after a long summer of training.

Launch the impending summer in Florence at the 107th Rhododendron Festival May 16th through 18th. Celebrating the wild rhododendrons of the Oregon Coast, the 2014 festival features a weekend of flower shows, arts and crafts, and a car show. Don’t miss the 2014 Grand Floral Parade on Sunday; the theme for 2014 is "Not Out First Rhody-Oh!"

The Sea Lion Caves, 10 miles north of Florence on the Oregon Coast, are a must-see for traveling wildlife enthusiasts. Known as America’s largest sea cave, visitors take an elevator 200 feet down into the cave to hear the chorus of Steller sea lions, birds and crashing waves. The Sea Lion Caves are open year round, for a truly wild Oregon coast experience.

On June 28th and 29th, as summer kicks in on the Oregon coast and warm breezes arrive, Lincoln City hosts the Central Oregon Coast Summer Kite Festival. The 2014 festival features kite flying demonstrations, free kids' kitemaking and running of the bols – where participants race into the wind attached to a doughnut-shaped kite. Join the crowd at the beach for the 2 p.m. Kids' Parade, where everyone will show off their kites and creations.

In August, the Taft District in Lincoln City hosts the Siletz Bay Sandcastle Contest. The 2014 contest is August 9th featuring amateur sand castle building groups, pairs, individuals, and kids creating their best sand sculpture for judging. Sign up to enter the fun at dock 51 Street, the day of the event.
