Travel Tips for Oregon Coast Visitors | Winter 2015-2016

Even as the days get shorter and the nights get colder, communities from Seaside to Lincoln City to Brookings welcome visitors with a wealth of ways to have fun, both indoors and outdoors. Special events, holiday celebrations, culinary affairs, and all sorts of other family-friendly fun – the Oregon Coast has it all this season.

Take in all the dynamic beauty the Oregon Coast has to offer on a scenic driving tour before it gets too chilly. Head south from Astoria to encounter countless uniquely Oregon attractions like the Peter Iredale Shipwreck near Fort Stevens State Park, just outside of town, and the Oregon Coast Aquarium, further south in Newport.

Seaside visitors can browse a broad selection of holiday gift ideas Thanksgiving weekend at the Seaside Civic and Convention Center. Seaside's Holiday Gift Fair 2015 showcases all kinds of unique, handmade works by local artists and craftspeople, November 27th through 29th, starting at 10 a.m.

December visitors to Astoria have a similar opportunity, December 4th through the 13th at Pier 11. The 2015 Astoria Winter Market is the 8th annual iteration of the popular boutique shopping event, inviting residents and visitors to shop 40-plus artisanal vendors, compete in a holiday cookie bake-off, and enjoying caroling and good tidings all around.

The 2015 Big Bad Big Band New Year's Eve Dance with the Lincoln Pops Orchestra is a great way to ring in the New Year. The band brings a host of hits from throughout the ages to the Lincoln City Cultural Center. Music starts at 7 p.m.

Sweet, savory, and sudsy – with a new year comes an assortment of exciting new flavors to try at food and drink celebrations up and down the coast. The 2015 Festival of the Dark Arts isn't what you're probably thinking – It's an afternoon of art, food, vendors, and samples of darker than dark stouts and other beers at Fort George Brewery in Astoria.

Back down south, the 2016 Newport Wine & Seafood Festival is a seasonal highlight. Held February 25th through 28th, the festival promises a little something for everyone, showcasing everything from arts and crafts to photography, with, of course, plenty of delicious food and drink offerings. It all goes down at the South Beach Marina in Newport.
