Travel Tips for Oregon Coast Visitors | Spring 2016

This season, communities along the Oregon coast enjoy brisk and balmy weather, and warming temperatures open up all sorts of opportunities for outdoor adventures at unique destinations like Fort Stevens State Park. What’s more, communities from Astoria and Seaside to Bandon and Brookings as inviting as ever, welcoming visitors with a variety of special events, food festivals, wine tastings, and family-friendly fun.

Astoria visitors can make the most of beautiful spring day by climbing the spiral staircase of the Astoria Column and taking it the view. In the springtime, the setting is one of picturesque seaside serenity and a look northwest reveals the iconic Astoria-Megler Bridge.

The 2016 Newport Wine & Seafood Festival features everything from arts and crafts and handmade goods to live music, kids entertainment, and, of course, plenty to eat and drink. It all goes down at the South Beach Marina in Newport, February 25 through 28th.

Still, Astoria may be the place to be for wine lovers this spring. On March 5th, the community comes together to sample a variety of new and aged wines and discover their perfect food pairing at the McTavish Room & Paulson Pavilion at the the Liberty Theater. Pours at UnWined 2016 flow from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Then, on March 12th, the Cellar on 10th hosts the 2016 Wines for Easter event, featuring a bevy of locally produced wines and gourmet food.

And that’s not all – the 34th annual Astoria Warrenton Crab, Seafood & Wine Festival brings tons of great coastal cuisine, arts and crafts, wine tastings, and more to the Clatsop County Fair & Expo Center.

Still hungry? Head south along the coast to reach Lincoln City, where you can check out the 7th annual Lincoln City Fish Taco Cook-Off on April 30th. It’s competition between the best area chefs to see whose fish tacos are best, and to the spectator go the spoils – in the form of scores of savory samplings. Skip breakfast and come hungry – things get cooking at 11 a.m.
