Visiting Metro Portland

Spring brings renewal to Portland, Oregon’s Rose City. This is the season for a stroll through the Portland Japanese Garden with its streams, unique gardens, and one-of-a-kind views of Mount Hood. Likewise the authentic Ming Dynasty style Lan Su Chinese Garden features walkways and bridges through richly planted gardens sprouting and blooming with the season’s warmth.

The Portland Saturday Market is a must stop for visitors to the city. The large open-air market features arts & crafts, live music and entertainment, and international foods. Held at Waterfront Park, the market is open Saturday and Sunday beginning in March.

May in Portland is a runner’s dream. Rock ‘n’ Roll Portland 2014 fills downtown Portland with runners and music Sunday, May 18th. Oregon Convention Center hosts the Rock 'n’ Roll Health and Fitness Friday and Saturday. Events include a 10k and half marathon course starting at Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park.

Memorial Day brings a challenge, the 50K in Forest Park. The 2014 event, held May 26th, takes place at Forest Park west of downtown Portland in the Tualatin Mountains. The 50K is the only event offered in the 2014 challenge.

The Salem Multicultural Institute launches into summer presenting the 17th Annual World Beat Festival. Held at Riverfront City Park on the east side of the Willamette River, World Beat 2014 is June 28th and 29th. Germany is the 2014 focus culture among more than 70 countries and cultures at the festival. Experience global foods, dances, and entertainment at the Salem World Beat Festival.

The Oregon State Fair and Exposition Center in Salem hosts the Marion County Fair July 10th through the 13th. Celebrate the agriculture, livestock, and tradition of Salem and the Willamette Valley, along with carnival fun, midway games, and food. Salem is the county seat of Marion County as well as the Oregon state capitol.

The end of the Lewis and Clark trial, Oregon City celebrates its heritage and history at the 5th Annual First City Celebration July 26th. A collaboration by Main Street Oregon City, Three Rivers Artist Guild, and East Valley Winery Association, the 2014 First City Celebration makes a great destination for family fun.
