Something for Everyone in Portland | Late-Summer 2014
As summer presses on, Portland perpetuates its reputation for personality through countless indoor and outdoor activities for every member of the family – even Fido.
This summer, the Portland area is especially pet-friendly, thanks to the community of Forest Grove and events like the Paws in the Grove Doggie Dash & Pet Fair on August 2nd. Hosted at Lincoln Park, the events feature one-mile and two-mile races starting at 9:30 a.m.
Bring Fido for a stroll through Forest Grove wineries like Plum Hill Vineyard for Canines Uncorked on August 9th, where furry friends can engage in a variety of dog-friendly activities while you sample local wines and cuisines. Serious connoisseurs will want to leave furry friends behind for August 16th’s Forest Grove Uncorked: A Wine, Microbrew, and Food Experience on Main Street, and lager lovers won’t want to miss the 2014 Brats and Brewfest, September 13th at the Forest Grove Community Center.
September is peak fair and festival season throughout the Portland area, and this year’s events provide almost endless choices for fun, every day and night of the week. Sandy draws residents and Portland-area visitors to St. Michael’s Church for the 2014 Sandy Oktoberfest, promising live music, beer, brats, and a car show, September 5th through the 7th.
Putting its own spin on the classic celebration, Biketoberfest 2014 brings beer, bikes, and bands to Hopworks Urban Brewery, September 27th. The party pairs samples of this season’s most anticipated new brews with live music, entertainment, and stunt riding. What’s more, the little ones are invited and a variety of entertainment is planned just for them.
The people of Beaverton, just north of Tigard, express their hometown pride through the 2014 Beaverton Celebration Day, Saturday, September 6th. Festivities include a parade and a 5K run. Runners can also head across town to the Portland International Raceway to be a part of the Color Run. The 2014 Color Run starts at 9 a.m. on September 6th, with waves of runners taking off every few minutes as the rest warm up at the starting line’s pre-race party, with music, dancing, stretching demonstrations and giveaways. Make sure to wear white – runners are bombarded with color blasts as they run, walk, and dance their way through the course.
