STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES IN PORTLAND
Travel Tips for Portland Visitors | Spring 2015
Everyone knows the Rose City is often rainy, but when the clouds do part this season, Portland and surrounding communities provide more ways than ever to make the most of spring and summer sunshine.
Don’t miss a chance to experience the many parks and gardens responsible for Portland’s nickname. Lan Su Garden, a blissful retreat in Portland’s Chinatown, officially comes alive in April, when the 2015 Lan Su in Bloom brings a month full of talks with garden experts, guided plant walks, and special flower arrangements to celebrate Lan Su’s blooming buds.
Portland Japanese Garden
Home to the Portland Japanese Garden, the International Rose Test Garden, and the Oregon Zoo, the 400-acre Washington Park is another must for spring and summer visitors looking to spend a sunny day outside.
Spring also brings the reopening of the Portland Saturday Market, which fills the north end of Tom McCall Waterfront Park with food trucks, street performers, and vendors selling handcrafted creations, all day each Saturday through December 19th.
Throughout the months of April and May, the entire city is taken over by the 2015 Portland Rose Festival, which is comprised of a multitude of events throughout Portland-area communities.
After the 2015 Awakening of the Dragons kicks off the festival on March 28th at Waterfront Park, don’t miss highlights like the 82nd Avenue of Roses Parade on April 25th, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon on May 17th, or the 24th Annual Canby Wine, Food, & Brew Festival, May 29th through 31st.
