WINTER WANES IN PORTLAND

Travel Tips for Portland Visitors | Winter/Early-Spring 2016

With warmer weather on its way, the City of Roses prepares to bloom – but there’s much to see and do before the snow melts. Countless special events, community festivals, and family-friendly activities await Portland visitors, and endless opportunities for outdoor adventure await just outside the city.

There’s still time to plan your ski trip this season, and Portland is just a short drive away from a number of first-rate ski areas. Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort in Mount Hood and Mt. Hood Ski Bowl in Government Camp are both easy day trip destinations and the remaining winter white means the drive promises to be as scenic as ever.

Back in town, sports fans can warm up with the Portland Trail Blazers. The 2015-16 NBA season is in its climactic second half and the Blazers are battling for a playoff berth. Check the schedule during your visit to witness the high-flying action at the Moda Center through mid-April.

Find out firsthand what has made the Pacific Northwest so well known for its beer by being a part of the 2016 First Taste Oregon, January 22nd through 24th. It’s a chance to savor samples of Oregon's best wines, foods, and craft beers while live music and other fun fills the Oregon State Fairgrounds and Exposition Center.

Scores of self-proclaimed nerds descend upon Oregon Convention Center, February 19th through 21st, for the 2016 Wizard World Comic Con. It’s a weekend of vendors, workshops, panel discussions, cosplay, and more for fans of comic books, science fiction, and other pop culture. Check the schedule to make sure you don’t miss a special appearance by the cast of Dr. Who.

The whole family can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub, March 17th through 20th. Three days of food and drinks, dancing, arts and crafts, and more activities just for the little ones combine to become one of the biggest St. Patty’s celebrations in the Northwest.
