THE ROSE CITY IN FULL BLOOM
Travel Tips for Portland Visitors | Spring 2016
There are more ways than ever to soak up some sunshine this spring. Special events, festivals, sports, and more combine with Portland's patented personality to promise this season's visitors plenty to see and do.
This time of year, visitors see first hand how the Rose City got its nickname. Lan Su Garden, an otherworldly urban respite, fills with a brilliant array of color every April. Don't miss talks with garden experts, guided plant walks, and special flower arrangements as Lan Su in Bloom 2016 celebrates the garden's newest blossoms.
Portland Japanese Garden
Not far away, the 400-acre Washington Park is another great place to spend a sunny day outside. It's home to Portland Japanese Garden, the International Rose Test Garden, and the Oregon Zoo.
The 2016 Portland Rose Festival is this year's edition of one of the city's largest and most popular events. This year's theme is "Excessive Celebration" and with good reason – the party goes from April 16th through mid-August.
Don't miss highlights like the Starlight Parade on June 4th, the Grand Floral Parade on June 11th, or the Junior Parade on June 8th. CityFair, part of the Portland Rose Festival, is also a must, bringing entertainment, food, and rides to Tom McCall Waterfront Park, May 27th through 30th, June 2nd through 5th, and June 9th through 12th.
The 2016 Lents Street Fair keeps the party going on July 31st. Kicked off by the Founder's Day Parade in downtown Portland, it's an afternoon of beer, music, a beauty pageant, and the locally famous Belmont Goats.
