Visiting Metro Portland
Welcome to Rose City in the spring. Portland visitors are met with a plethora of activity and adventure in this famed northern Oregon city. Check out the 2012 Spring Beer and Wine Festival come April, visit the NBA Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden, or explore any Portland area staple like Powell's City of Books or the Hawthorne District. Enjoy a tour of Stumptown thanks to the Portland Spirit touring group, see what exhibits are on display this spring at the Portland Art Museum, or visit stunning Portland area towns like Gresham, Tigard, and McMinnville. Take your time this spring in Portlandia.
This spring, check out the 2012 Spring Beer and Wine Festival at the Oregon Convention Center in mid April. Attend a seminar, grab a drink in the Hip Sips Lounge, or see what this Tour de Cheese & Chocolate is all about – followed by a browse through the many arts and crafts booths. Enjoy live music from the 2012 headliners – most from the Portland area – and take home a 2012 Spring Beer and Wine Festival poster or souvenir glass.
Get in some roundball this spring in Portland. Cheer on LaMarcus Aldridge and the rest of the Portland Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden Arena in central Portland. Catch the Trail Blazers battle the San Antonio Spurs in late February, or the Dallas Mavericks in mid-April, and grab a Trail Blazer t-shirt followed by a stay at a Best Western hotel in Portland.
Shoppers can find haven in Portland’s many shopping centers and outdoor markets – many of which start up in the spring. Grab an umbrella, and check out the Portland Saturday Market for some quirky crafts, or the Portland Farmers Market set on the beautiful Portland State University campus for fresh, local produce. Explore the high-end retail over at downtown’s Pioneer Place, or step inside the many vintage boutiques and record stores found throughout the city.
Explore the shopping, dining, and historic experience of the many suburbs of Portland – a great way to soak in the area’s beautiful spring weather. Stroll through Historic Downtown Gresham – just 16 miles east of Portland – for dinner at 4th Street Brewing Co., and dessert at Bella Cupcake. History buffs, head southwest to Tigard and check out the John Tigard House. And for more small town splendor, head southwest to the scenic city of McMinnville.
Just 40 miles southwest of Portland, and 30 miles northeast of Salem, McMinnville is a beautiful spring getaway less than an hour from the Oregon coast. Check out Howard Hughes’ Spruce Goose at the Evergreen Aviation Museum in eastern McMinnville, or take a self-guided walking tour of the McMinnville Downtown Historic District. Try wine tastings at one of McMinnville’s many area wineries like Yamhill Valley Vineyards and WineWorks Orego – a must do while in town this spring.
