Visiting Southern Oregon

Southern Oregon comes alive in spring and summer. It's time to make travel plans for destinations including Crater Lake National Park, the Beaver State’s only National Park. The southern Cascade Mountains are the ideal spot for hiking, mountain biking and fishing among the offerings. Southern Oregon in spring and summer means the Oregon Shakespeare Festival is in full swing in Ashland. Don’t miss an outdoor performance on the Elizabethan Stage, or enjoy any one of eleven 2013 plays featured at Ashland’s OSF. If Oregon beaches are on your itinerary, visit Brookings and the neighboring community of Harbor for a full summer of events.

Medford, the county seat of Oregon’s Jackson County, celebrates summer 2013 at July’s Summer Fair. Enjoy the Rogue Valley tradition of the fair with live entertainment on the Dinner Stage and the Lithia Motors Amphitheater, drinks and dancing at the Rogue Saloon, and of course browse the best of Southern Oregon agriculture and livestock at the fair exhibits. The Medford Summer Fair is July 16th through the 21st. The Jackson County Fairgrounds are directly west of the rogue Valley International – Medford Airport.

Pick a summer weekend for fun on the Southern Oregon coast. After amazing spring whale watching, the community of Brookings launches summer 2013 Memorial Day weekend with the Azalea Festival and Party at the Port. For anglers, Memorial Day also marks the opening of Chinook Salmon season.

The Port of Brookings-Harbor hosts live bands and vendors May 24th through the 26th, just the beginning of the fun at the 4th Annual Party at the Port. Meanwhile the Azalea Festival fills the streets of Brookings-Harbor with a parade, street fair, food and shows. Join the fun May 24th through 27th.

The Cascade Mountains of Klamath County beckon outdoor enthusiasts with ideal landscapes for any traveler’s pick of summer adventure. Memorial Day 2013 kicks of a summer of events at Fort Klamath, 40-miles north of Klamath Falls past Upper Klamath Lake. Celebrating the Sesquicentennial of the establishment of Fort Klamath, check the fort schedule on your travels for the latest events. The formal 150-year celebration is September 7th.
