Communities throughout southern Oregon come together to celebrate spring blooms in a variety of colorful ways – indoors and outdoors. From Brookings to Ashland to Lakeview, countless special events, festivals, and kid-friendly attractions await spring visitors.

As blossoming wildflowers paint the landscape with a diverse and vibrant palette, it's time to pack up the car and explore southern Oregon on a scenic driving tour. Not only do communities like Ashland, Medford, Lakeview make great day trip destinations, all sorts of uniquely Oregon attractions line backroads and highways. And midday travelers are treated with breathtaking views from scenic vantage points like Ashland Overlook along the way.

It's easy for Ashland visitors to become immersed in the city's burgeoning arts and cultural scene. On the first Friday of every month, Ashland's First Friday Art Walk fills the Historical Downtown and Railroad districts with life, as galleries, venues, and restaurants open up to showcase the works of local artists, musicians, and performers. Things usually get started around 5 p.m.

After taking it all in, it's likely you'll be overcome by inspiration to paint something of your own, so why not learn the tricks of the trade from a bonafide expert? On March 19h and 20th, Oil Painting Techniques with Jenay Elder is open to painters of all skill levels. The class goes from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Ashland Art Center.

Ashland is well known to theatre lovers for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, but nearby Medford gets in on the onstage fun this season, too. On April 21st, the Craterian Theater at the Collier Center hosts Menopause the Musical, promising an evening full of laughs. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., and two dollars of each ticket sold will benefit the Susan G. Koman Foundation.

Families visiting Medford can also get in touch with their artistic sides. Bring the little ones to the Rogue Gallery & Art Center on May 14th for the 2016 Family Art Day. It's an afternoon of Hands on projects, displays, games, and more – what better way to spend a spring day with the kids?
